thirty!

thirty

I turned thirty yesterday. It was a very nice birthday. Yesterday morning I gave Eva a squeeze, and then sent her off with my dad on a plane to New Jersey, so that she can spend the next week visiting with her grandparents. That left me with an oddly quiet afternoon of sewing followed by a night out on the town. (And a birthday pie—Elie made blueberry pie with shortbread crust.) We spent the evening with Kristin and Jason who get the credit for lolcats birthday card—they are so fun and know what will make me laugh. The photo of me is from our camping trip earlier this summer, where I am doing some early morning, pre-breakfast knitting. This explains why I look so hot.

So I had wondered if I might have some sort of breakdown at turning 30, because I’ve heard that happens sometimes, but I didn’t. I’m really pretty happy with where I am, and nothing presented itself yesterday that made me feel old and in need of a breakdown. Generally, I am the youngest person I know. Of course this isn’t really true, but I think it is true that all my friends are older than me. I had Eva when I was pretty young (nine years ago), and so the things I was doing weren’t the same as what other people my age were doing. In the last three places I’ve lived, I’ve made friends through working, being a parent, and the fun little world of social crafting, and age hasn’t mattered a bit. I used to worry that it would and that people wouldn’t want to be my friend because I was too young. (So now, don’t stop coming here because you thought I was an older blogger!) But really, it shouldn’t be surprising that friends are friends regardless of age. Although, I can’t join in when everyone else is singing all the words to Xanadu.

Happy Birthday, Dorie! It sounds like a great one.
And I am 38 and don’t know the words to Xanadu either. ;)

I am new to this site and just fell in love with sewing. I would like to know where to get your oil cloth lunch bag pattern

Happy birthday, Dorie! I also tend to befriend older people (I am younger than you by almost two years), and like you generally find that age doesn’t matter much when you’re within a generation or so. Glad the trip to Hawaii was such fun!

But you could still get your groove on to Xanadu, which is what really matters. (And I still vote for you squarely embracing the Generation X descriptor.)

So glad we went out and had so much fun!
