evening stockings

knee socks

I kind of don’t even know what to say about these socks. I love them. They are tall, lacy socks that would be (will be) really great for October. They were started in March and finished this weekend. Sock number too took a long time because it got warm and knitting was suddenly much less exciting. That said, knitting is much more exciting as of Saturday when I needed to start a new project (because really, nothing but knitting will do for the commute). It is so easy to spend forever on Ravelry because they really have all the options. If you’re like me and like to consider all the options before you do something, this can be hard. I have started three projects in the last three days, and I’m not sure that I’m keeping any of them. I want to make the absolute best match of project to yarn while maintaining budget and reducing stash. This is ridiculous. How do you pick projects? What do you do when you regret it?

Another question: How important is blocking my socks? I didn’t block these because I don’t have sock blockers and even if I did, they would be too short. Am I missing out?

I love your socks! I have made this pattern twice but shorter. Someday I will have to make the knee-high version. I never block my socks on a sock blocker. Just give them a good soak and then I lay them flat to dry on top of the clothes dryer.

Oh, and if I regret starting or even finishing a project, I frog. I think I have probably knit almost everything twice. Crazy, I know.

What beautiful socks! I’m so impressed.

Haven’t blocked a sock I’ve made yet. Usually give them a warm bath so that my feet don’t turn a lovely shade of sock color and then wear and wash them until they need to be mended. Then they languish in the mend pile for a long time.

About blocking socks, it’s really up to personal preference. In reality, once you have them on your feet, as you have here, wear them a bit and stretch them out, voila! They are essentially blocked. If you want a perfect blocking job, and your aim is to post some super focused macro shots for your blog, go for the wet block and invest in those wooden sock blockers especially if you are a regular sock knitter. Personally, if I even have the time to update my blog anymore, or even Ravel it (ok, or even knit a pair of socks), I might block them once for the photo shoot, then it’s wash and wear and don’t even think about it ever again. Really cute socks! I love the color.
