It’s summer (mostly) and I’m taking a break from knitting airy shawls to do some knitting of warm things for people who might otherwise be cold. Cephalopod Yarns (half of what was formerly the Sanguine Gryphon) is sponsoring a drive for Afghans for Afghans. You might be familiar with Afghans for Afghans—they send warm hand knit items to people in Afghanistan (currently focusing on street children), and they have a lot of support from the crafting community. I’ve knit for them before as a Christmas gift for someone else. Cephalopod Yarns is really trying to encourage participation in this drive, and they’re offering yarn gift certificates to those who make hand knit items. It’s really incredibly generous—it gives us a little bit of selfishness in our altruism. More details in this ravelry thread. Maybe you’d like to knit a pair of mittens or a hat or two? Finished projects need to be at CY by the end of June.
