making yarn overs bigger and therefore lacey-er

February Lady in progress

My knitting pattern of the moment is the ever-popular February Lady Sweater. I think everyone at knit night is going to make this one—it's that good. I had a lot of time to work on the sweater today because we were at a gymnastics meet (so cute and holy crap my kid can flip and stuff!) where there is a lot of waiting. I had gotten a few repeats into the lacy pattern part, and it just wasn't looking lacy. It looked more like I was just knitting all weird there. The holes in the lace were not big enough. How to solve? I went with advice from someone (can't remember who) at knit night who suggested wrapping my yarn overs (yo) the other way. That did it!

yarn over right and wrong

So just in case this has ever happened to you, here are two pictures of wrapping yarn overs. The second one gives you good lacy holes!

Joanna's Gravatar Oh my goodness, that sweater IS that good!! This might have just been put on my crafting to-do list, right after Elliot's stocking, which is after my niece's baby album. I might need help though. I just looked at the pattern and I've never marked stitches before. If I try it, can I pester you with questions?
